Office of Naval Research is looking for a way to independently scrub, a vessel’s hull on a regular basis. Thus not only makes them look darn pretty, but scraped off Long Neck Species improves speed of the ship and dramatically reducing fuel consumption. The BUG is an autonomous robot that uses vacuum vortex regenerative liquid motion (as civilians refer to as “suction”) to stick to the hull of a ship. Four wheel drive it forward, while sensors including biofilms detectors and flourometers makes it possible to avoid obstacles and plan paths that will take it from contaminated surfaces.
