The Traffic Jam Assist system allows a driver sitting in heavy traffic to give control to the car itself, thus avoiding the tedium of short stop-and-start driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic during a long commute. The car keeps a safe distance from the car in front of it, and can even avoid a car cutting in from another lane. Ford hopes to put this system into its commercial cars starting sometime in 2017.
