The car is entirely powered by silicon solar cells and produces about 1200 watts — the same amount of power required to run a toaster. The “IVy,” the fourth solar car built by the Sunswift team from the University of New South Wales in Australia. IVy normally uses its cells to charge a 25kg battery, but this was removed for the record attempt. During the 3000km Global Green Challenge race from Darwin to Adelaide in 2009, IVy reached a top speed of 103 km/h.
